General Dentistry

Advanced Dental Care makes your oral health a priority throughout your life. We serve many families and the neighboring communities, we are uniquely qualified and experienced to meet the dental needs and goals of everyone in your family.

Check up and cleans

Regular examination and cleaning of your teeth is recommended to check for potential problems and maintain good oral health.

At your check-up and clean appointment, our dentist will do a thorough oral examination of your teeth and oral soft tissue.

Your teeth are cleaned with a procedure called scaling and then polished.

We may recommend a fluoride application or further preventative measures

and give you oral hygiene advice.

Dental x-rays are taken if you are a new patient or if you are due for a screen

of your teeth and to better evaluate your dental health.

Your dentist will create a personalised treatment plan should you need further treatment.

We recommend a 6 monthly check-up and cleans to maintain healthy teeth and gums.

Fillings

Once decay has taken hold in a tooth, it will continue to damage more and more of a tooth. Decay can creep underneath existing fillings unnoticed. A new filling repairs the damage caused by decay and stops any more bacteria from entering the tooth. Fillings can be made of a number of different materials and can be used to repair any tooth in the mouth.

Types of fillings

  • Composite fillings are a natural-looking, tooth coloured  resin. After the decay is drilled away, the tooth is prepared and an adhesive placed prior to the placement of composite. A blue light is then used on the composite to harden it. The finished result is very durable and different shades can be used to match your natural teeth.
  • Amalgam is a mix of metal alloys that are used to restore a cavity. They are very durable however are not aesthetically pleasing to look at.
  • Gold fillings are long-lasting and durable, however are a costly option.
  • Ceramic restorations are used when a large amount of tooth structure has been lost. They allow more natural tooth structure to be retained due to the their  conservative design. Modern technology has made it possible for these restorations to be manufactured in the surgery using Cad-cam technology.

Restorative dentistry

We use high quality dental materials like composite resins and ceramic to provide tooth restorations that not only look real, they feel and function like your own natural teeth!

Crowns

Crowns are permanent restorations for teeth with minimal tooth structure, where a regular filling is not a long-term solution. They completely cover the tooth and protect the remaining tooth.  They are recommended for weakened teeth, cracked areas and

for teeth that have had root canal treatment.

Single visit ceramic crowns

We're proud to offer CEREC® single visit restorations to our patients.

This means that you can have a ceramic, metal-free crown created and placed in

a single visit. That means less waiting and less time spent in the dental surgery.

Bridges

When there are gaps between teeth as a result of tooth loss, bridges can be an option to replace the missing teeth.

A bridge consists of 2 crowns on either side of a gap, with one or 2 artificial teeth joining the crowns together.

Having one or more missing teeth can affect your ability to chew, affect speech and appearance.

We will discuss with you the different types of crown and bridge materials available and costs at your consultation appointment.

Root Canal Treatment

Root canal treatment is the treatment to save a tooth instead of an extraction when the dental pulp, the soft living tissue inside a tooth's roots is damaged.

The main cause of pulp damage is decay, trauma, cracks that extend to the pulp of the tooth. The pulp becomes inflamed and eventually dies, which results in pain and infection.

X-Rays are taken initially for diagnosis and then during the course of the treatment.

Multiple appointments, usually 2-3 appointments are needed to:

  • remove the infected pulp
  • clean, disinfect and shape the root canals
  • fill the canals with a root filling material

In some cases, a referral may be required to a root canal specialist or endodontist.

When the root canal treatment is completed, the tooth can be restored and protected with a crown. Crowns are usually recommended for badly damaged teeth and for molar teeth as a permanent, long- term restoration.

Periodontal treatment

Periodontal disease, also known as gum disease, is an infection or inflammation of your gums, tissues and bone structure that support your teeth. The symptoms include:

  • Red or swollen gums
  • Tender or bleeding gums
  • Receding gums
  • Sensitive teeth
  • Painful chewing
  • Bad breath
  • Loose teeth

Periodontal disease is caused by the bacteria that exists in plaque. It is important to understand there are a range of factors that will increase your risk of gum disease. These include smoking, diabetes, certain medication and illnesses.

Periodontal treatment is where all the plaque and calculus that built up above and below the gumline is removed. Following this, your dentist will review the condition of your gums. If you require more intensive  treatment, a referral can be arranged for you to see a gum specialist, known as a periodontist.

This condition, if diagnosed at an early stage, can be managed with oral hygiene measures and a maintenance program.

Extractions

An extraction is the complete removal of a tooth. Teeth may need to be removed for orthodontic treatment, if they are badly broken down or if there is an infection.

Badly broken down teeth sometimes cannot be repaired or filled or these teeth may become infected and cause pain.

Wisdom teeth that are impacted can also be a problem and cause pain and swelling in the gum and jaw.

Our experienced team will make sure that you feel comfortable during the procedure.

Prior to any extraction, our dentists will discuss with you the available replacement  options,

such as a denture, bridge or implant.

Sports Mouthguards & Occlusal Splints

At Advanced Dental Care we provide custom-made mouthguards for all age groups. They are recommended to protect your teeth, gums and the soft tissues in your mouth during contact sports.

Occlusal splints, also known as bite splints, protect your teeth from damage caused by grinding or clenching your jaws or both.

Grinding and clenching the jaw are parafunctional habits that develop when one is stressed.  They cause headaches, facial pain and/or temporomandibular joint pain.

Our mouthguards and splints are made here in Australia out of the high quality materials.

Whether for yourself or your child, our family dentists can help advise you on the best oral appliance for you.
